    New to RC? Start here.

A few useful things to know. No experience needed.

What makes hobby-grade RC different from a toy RC car?

Hobby-grade vehicles are designed to be repaired by replacing individual parts when they break, whereas toy-grade products often lack available replacement parts. Hobby-grade models also feature proportional controls, meaning small movements on the handheld controller create small, precise movements on the vehicle.

    Sources
What do the parts inside an electric RC car actually do?
    Handheld controller (transmitter)
The device held by the driver that sends steering and throttle signals to the vehicle.
    Receiver
The unit inside the vehicle that receives signals from the transmitter and relays them to the steering servo and speed controller.
    Speed controller (ESC)
An electronic accelerator that varies electrical power from the battery to the motor to control speed.
    Steering servo
The muscle of the steering system that uses a motor and gears to push and pull the wheels to direct the vehicle.
    Motor
The component that converts electrical energy into mechanical motion to drive the wheels.
    Battery
The onboard power source that provides the electricity needed to run the vehicle's electronics and motor.
    Chassis
The structural platform or frame that all other parts are bolted to.

What is a receiver/ESC combo, and does this truck have one?

This truck includes a 2-in-1 unit that combines the receiver and speed controller into a single component mounted inside the vehicle. The Spektrum SLT2 handheld controller is a separate device used to send signals to this internal unit. If you decide to upgrade your electronics later, you should check that your new radio system and motor are compatible with your chosen components.

    Inside this version

    • Spektrum SCX30 SLT Brushed 2-in-1 ESC/Receiver (installed)

    Does ready-to-run include everything?

Ready-to-Run (RTR) means the vehicle is pre-built and bound to the included radio system. However, you should always check the product detail page for any additional components that may be required, such as specific batteries or chargers.

    Sources
What does RC scale tell me?

Scale indicates the size of the model relative to a full-size vehicle. A 1/30 scale model is roughly 1/30 the size of its real-life counterpart. Actual dimensions still vary between different models.

    See this rig’s details
    Sources
Where can I drive a truck this small?

This 1/30 scale, 17.5 cm (6.9 inch) long truck is designed for navigating desktops, cluttered living rooms, and outdoor rock or dirt trails. The manufacturer does not establish performance for driving in grass.
